Almost four years ago I moved to Boston from Morhrsville, PA. Mohrsville is a suburb of Reading, which is really a suburb of Philadelphia. I had recently come off of a particularly painful relationship, and I was seeing someone from Boston - a guy who was all lightness and friendship and casual romance. I could not have been happier with my decision to move or more excited about a change.
On June 21st - a hot, windy, rainy night, I drove from PA to Somerville, MA and started my brand new life. I arrived at 3:30am in a splendid exhaustion. One day soon after, I woke up in the bed of my new friend, eager to explore, discover my surroundings... and eat breakfast. He woke up to my gentle prodding (I am a morning person) and put on some music. Ryan Montbleau's Stretch filled his tiny bedroom. The sun streamed in through the curtains and I stretched all my parts. I took it all in. I was STARTING ANEW. The slate was clean. I've looked back many times, but I've never been more content than in my current home, my current community. Everywhere I turn there are beautiful people with a strong hug and a catchy song to guide me to wherever I'm going.
I've heard Ryan play more times that I remember. I'm never sorry to have spent my time that way. About fifteen minutes ago I got home from Toad in Cambridge, having listened to Ryan play. He played Stretch, the theme song of my ressurection. He also played Wilco's Jesus, etc. and I thought I would break down with gratitude that he could make one of the songs that moves me into something even more personal than it is.
I'm where I belong. No matter what I may question about my life, I'm sure of that.
What a delightful night. If I'm lucky, when I fall asleep in a few minutes, maybe I can come up with something as delightful as what I just lived.
EDITED TO ADD: Yes. I was drunk when I wrote this.

It's totally OK to get gooey and life-loving while in the cups. A lot better than getting angry or depressesd. Rock on, sister.
Welcome to Town... you should come to the event with the very same mantra as yours... It's called YUM, a taste of immigrant city!
