This post brought to you by the letter P

I never ate the banana. Neither of the ones I have. So... I'll have to make a baked good.

PANDORA. I love Pandora. I only have two channels right now, but who needs more than two channels if one is a Wilco channel and the other is a Pixies channel? I really only have those two moods.

Why do I love Pandora so much? Two reasons:

Reason the first!
I don't know how other people hear new music, but since I generally only ever listen to NPR I don't hear it on the radio. By the time I've heard of a "new" musician everyone else has already gotten around to hating them. So, branching out - that's the first reason.

Reason the second!
Here's an embarrassing confession: I am completely incapable of making a cohesive playlist on my iPod. For instance, I'll have something from The Cure*, and then perhaps the Psychadelic Furs** and then all of a sudden I'll be singing Thin Lizzy's The Boys Are Back in Town and wouldn't that go great with the other two songs?

No. No it wouldn't.

That's why I have a playlist called "alterno" that has 500 songs including the Indigo Girls and Prince. I am bad at this.

But. I think with the help of my friend Pandora and a little time commitment, I can make some important cuts and form some other, aptly named playlists to suit my moods. All two of them.

*Yes. I have The Cure on my iPod.
**After my admission of The Cure are you really surprised at this? I thought not.

I also <3 Pandora. If you ever get a spacephone, you can add reason #3-the Pandora app is awesome. I have a station entitled "Pretty" which is seeded with Amos Lee & Martin Sexton & Chris Trapper (along with a bunch of others). It's lovely as background music, as it's very soothing, but it's also interesting enough to actually stop & listen to. If you're interested, I can share it...

I also have The Cure on my ipod. I am not ashamed of this in the slightest.

Pandora ROCKS. T made a David Bowie station that is pretty damn awesome. And sister M found a "Rock-a-Bye Baby" station that plays rock songs to lullaby tunes. Nice.

This is why I love the Genius function on my iPod--I can't do playlists well, either.
