Wow. Quite a week...
Ed McMahon, Farah Fawcett, and Michael Jackson.
Michael Jackson's THRILLER was the first tape I ever owned. Dang.
What a weird dude. He was obviously extremely talented, and I would bet, rather disturbed. I had mixed feelings about him, but he was undoubtedly a huge musical influence.
Farah Fawcett was an Angel, and had great hair. Her image was postered on SO MANY walls -boys' and girls'. I always wanted to be one of Charlie's Angels, and still kind of do: fighting crime, lookin' good...
I'm still waiting for that check from Ed McMahon...

Bumper to bumper
Dear Cross Bronx Expressway,
You suck SO much. You are dirty, smelly, and decidedly NOT scenic, and (I do not like stooping to insult your parentage, but) yo’ mama so ugly she make the George Washington Bridge look good. For serious, CBE, I was really truckin’ before I got to you. I was making good time. I was gonna join my brother, his girlfriend, and our friend J for STEAK. Steak that I wouldn’t have to pay for. Well forget that. Because of the 2+ hours I spent on your 4 miles, I was WAY TOO LATE FOR STEAK.
See ya, wouldn’t wanna be ya…
L.
P.S. I suspect you are in cahoots with Rte 78, whose road work delayed me an extra hour – bringing my trip that should have been 6 hours to 9 hours.
****
On the bright side, I had a nice trip to my brother’s house. I got to meet his (girlfriend’s) 5 rescue dogs, and see our childhood friend J, or “J the Joker” as he is also known.
I’m quite happy I’m home now, and I will not be traveling back that way until my family visits me here in Boston first. It’s my turn.
****
So, last night, J, her man, my man, and I all went to say fare-thee-well to our favorite ER Doc, Dr. Monkey. As I write this, Dr. M is traveling to his new (old) home on the west coast. It’s a sad thing to lose him. But we all had a lot of drinks and tasty seafood in Providence to celebrate the Doctor’s awesomeness. Goodbye to our terrific, hilarious, smartypants Dr. M! We hope to see you soon!

It burns me...like acid.
Holy Potato!
Are acid washed jeans back?
Are they? ARE THEY?!?!?!?!
You can tell me. I'm a big girl.
I just saw the button-nosed, blond fashionista girl in the office walk by with jeans that were distinctly ACID WASHED. I think I actually heard my own jeans cry out in pain and shame.

This little piggy said "ouch"
Oh so tired.
The weekend was full. Of moving stuff - my stuff, other people's stuff. Whatever.
Friday night, I attacked my basement, which is where stuff-I-don't-want-to-look-at goes to die. I managed to put together a pretty big "trash" pile, and a goodly-sized "donate" pile.
Saturday morning I brought a big load of stuff to my new place and carried it all up. Then I called my man who promised to help me move my mattresses and bed and some tables (since I can't carry them by my lonesome). I picked him up, fed him some very yummy turkey burgers, and then we got moving. WOW moving is so much faster when you're not doing it alone, you know? When you're moving, big strong man = awesome.
After we moved some big stuff he went back to his place to do man things, while I set upon building my new Ikea desk. It took me half a bottle of wine to complete it, and when I stood back I realized I'd put on one of the pieces backwards. D'oh. Luckily, there was very little I had to do to fix it...
Saturday night we watched Rome and ate and passed out pretty early. And Sunday we managed to sleep in until 9. NINE! This is amazing and it never happens. We breakfasted and took another load of stuff over to my place. Later I had to go to the theatre to help move stuff and build the set. I carried some REALLY heavy things and my arms are FREAKING killing me. Don't they know I've already carried a lot of heavy things?!?! Up three flights??!?! Gah!
After I left the theatre I took one more load of stuff to my place. I was carrying a relatively light box of glassware up the stairs and I tripped, smashing only one shot glass, but also (I'm pretty sure) spraining 2 of my teeny toes in the process. Boo!
At least we had a nice dinner, consisting of fresh green beans, brown rice, and seared duck breast. Yum.
Last night I managed to get almost no sleep at all, so I'm kind of running on empty here.
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...

Update-a-go-go
Ooooh. It's been a while.
But that's good - that means there's stuff to update about.
The weekend before last, I went to my 10 year college reunion. Wow, Colgate is really beautiful, y'all. They've done some splendid things with new (and old) buildings, and I had a lovely time seeing all my peeps. Let me tell you, 10 years will really CHILL some mo-fos OUT.
Then, last Friday, my boss at my temping gig offered me a permanent position here. It is a GREAT deal and DANG did I need that. I've been unemployed since the middle of January. And it was a cold, bleak winter. There were, of course, good things, but it's hard not knowing where your money and benefits will come from on a long-term basis. Anyway, I am quite pleased, as the company is good and strong and seems fun. (They like me! They really like me!)
All this while, I've also been painting and bringing things to me new apartment. I'll try to take some good pictures of the incredibly 70s colors I've unleashed on this place. When I started painting the bold orange (called "tigerstripe") in the bedroom area, I was deeply panicked. Then J came over to help and declared it "perfect", probably because she knows that I require much encouragement as to my choices, and she's happy to oblige. I am very anxious to be in the new place for various reasons- mostly centered around the apartment's proximity to: my boyfriend, great breakfast/coffee/the T/the theatre/other completely awesome friends. Good stuff.
Now, I'm looking forward to tomorrow night, because as an act of celebration, J and I are going to the VERY delicious East Coast Grill in Inman Square. I remember reading about this place before I even moved here. They have amazing seafood, and very yummy scorpion bowls.
So, back to the grind (I'm SO happy there's a grind!).
